The Future of Facebook and Timeline

I assume that future technology online will bring us to a point where they can decide everything for us. Facebook can connect the dots when you say you are buying a car- and they will look through your education, area you live, etc. just to find the right car for you and put out an advertisement. These advertisements are to suit your needs when online. It is to draw your attention on something more than just the social aspect.

What really surprised me was how much they are praising the timeline on Facebook. It allows people to go all the way back to the beginning of your Facebook. They say it's like Facebook is keeping a "permanent record" on you for people to see. They can go all the way back to the first day you used Facebook and everyone can see what you did. They are targeting people by the numbers.

The possibilities are endless in this area, meaning it will be able to know everything about and fill your needs. In the past, the addition of a 'like' button told the marketing what you liked. They could place advertisements on the sides of your games or Facebook in general just to attract you to the product.

Some technologies may be used today such as biological machines are enhanced today. Some of the computing technologies are also being used today or have been changes and made better by scientists. There are also power saving technologies that have made better by experts and can be used in daily life.

Google's new policy will allow them to search through your Gmail to help decide which Google Products sell to you, also allowing YouTube to recieve the same information. Google will also look through all of the websites you use and base their ads off of what you have seen, trying to guess your age and putting ads relevant to that data. Google also will look at your Google calandar and tailor the ads to the activity you are doing for the day.

Mark W. Smith from the Detroit Free Press explains the new policy of Google and breaks it down. He states that Google will have access to the information it stores about you using its applications like Gmail, Google Calendar, etc. He also explains how Google will now be able to send Google Calendar reminders to your phone based on your exact latitude and longitude. Smith says that many Web users found this to be a bit shocking and disturbing.

I, for one, exteremly disagree with all of the changes Google is making. If it is illegal for somebody to go through our mail without our permission, it is the same for my email.. whether Google owns it or not. My private messages between my friends and family are my business and not theirs. The ads on the side are annoying as it is, because I'm not going to buy a designer purse online anways, even if that is how they make money. My messages are for my eyes only. Privacy is privacy. Period.

A&M Racords VS. Napster

A & M Records brought Napster to court after accusing them of stealing music from their company and distributing it illegally. After the case was brought to court, Napster was found guilt and was forced to shut down it's site and had to settle 26 million dollars to every recording company they had taken music from.

Online Safety

I think Internet safety is being able to keep personal information private on the web. The three most important things about being safe online is keeping your password a secret, even from your closest friends. Also, keeping your location, full name, school, and phone number etc. private and out of reach for strangers. Lastly, you shouldn't consult people on private chat rooms because you have no way to identify who they really are. People on the Internet will lie about their age, name, and gender to gain your trust. From the presentation, I learned all of the consequences cyberbullying will cause. I would change what I do on the web by being careful about who I add on Facebook and how much information I give out over the web.

Feed Demon vs. Google Reader

Personally, I liked Google Reader more than I liked Feed Demon. Even though Feed Demon had alot more options than Google Reader did, it was alot more confusing. While using Feed Demon it would never accept the sites that I would have wanted to follow, whereas in Google Reader it would accept any site. Also, while using Feed Demon, the previous site I had sumbitted would have been left in the subscription box, so it would take longer just erasing the whole URL. Also, I like Google Reader's layout alot more than Feed Demon's because it is less complicated and more user friendly. Lastly, I like how I can connect Google Reader connected to my iGoogle, whereas Feed Demon didn't connect to any of my other sites I've been using. I think it's easier to access Google Reader than it is to access Feed Demon because it is connected to iGoogle.
